Overview

AIMA is the global trade association for the hedge fund industry. Headquartered in London, it works with and represents almost 1,300 member companies (4,700 individuals) throughout the Americas, EMEA and Asia-Pacific regions.   It is responsible for representing the industry to policy makers, regulatory and tax authorities, institutional investors and the media.   We require a senior and experienced individual to work with the existing communications and research staff to build our resources further and to underpin the important work being undertaken with – particularly – our policy and regulatory efforts.

This appointment is available immediately.

Background

We require someone with considerable financial PR and communications experience. The ideal candidate will have had notable exposure to the hedge fund community together with several years’ broader asset management industry and financial services in general. He/she will be able to demonstrate experience in communications to multiple stakeholder groups and with a particular emphasis on the political community.

Such a candidate will be a highly enthusiastic and pro-active professional who is comfortable with managing challenging reactive issues and enquiries. Key elements of the role include communications with all stakeholders including members as well as brand management.

Duties

The Director of Communication’s primary responsibilities will be to work with the AIMA management team and a specialist PR agency to formulate strategy and then execute it on behalf of the Association. Reporting to the CEO, the Director of Communications will be responsible for:

  • all communications activities across all stakeholder groups;
  • the development and implementation of communications and research strategies;
  • the internal and external personnel focused on communications and research;
  • the development of materials (including press releases) on AIMA and the hedge fund industry for stakeholders;
  • assisting interested parties in the accurate reporting and analysis of the industry;
  • maintaining pro-active relationships with key media as well as the heads of communications at hedge fund industry firms;
  • putting in place any communications methodologies (processes, guidelines) required throughout AIMA’s operations, with the aim of increased standardisation of method and approach around the world; and
  • developing educational seminars for the media on the industry, where appropriate.

Qualities

Qualities that are essential for this position include:

  • an extremely strong grasp of the spoken and written word, with particular emphasis on the ability to write concisely and precisely;
  • an ability to represent professionally the Association management externally and internally, at times in stressful situations;
  • a willingness to work enthusiastically and happily within a small yet global team;
  • an aptitude for working closely with highly successful and demanding executives in the fastest growing segment of the financial services industry;
  • an interest in and ability to work with individuals from a variety of cultures; and
  • strong computer skills, including Outlook (email) and Word.

There will be some international travel.

Existing staff include a Communications & Policy Associate and a Research Manager together with an external agency.   Salary   Dependent on experience,  plus discretionary bonus, private healthcare generous pension plan and interest-free travel loan (after trial period).
