The qualities and experience needed include:

• Excellent command of the fundamentals of software development: algorithms, data structures, object-oriented design
• Familiarity with modern software development methods, specifically test-driven development; loosely-coupled designs; effective use of software patterns and avoidance of antipatterns.
• Fluency in Java and at least one of the following languages: C, Perl, C++, JavaScript. Familiarity with core language and library features in Java.
• Interest in real-time electronic trading.
• Bonus: experience with developing GUIs or web front ends; experience with real-time trading systems; experience with RDBMS or OR solutions.
