The position will be based in New York.

The Desk Analyst for the Black River Emerging Market Credit Fund will work under the direction of portfolio manager to perform credit analysis of emerging market corporate issuers requiring thorough understanding of financial statement analysis, and credit-related documentation. The analyst will focus on the tradable universe of EM corporate bonds across three regions – LATAM, EMEA, Asia. The analyst will build, update and maintain financial and valuation models for portfolio investments. The analyst will be responsible for following all of the latest news/announcements that could affect portfolio positions and make action oriented recommendations. The analyst will typically conduct independent research to assess the various key value drivers of any given credit/security, but will also maintain close contact with Street analysts to aggregate broader views. The analyst will present cross company financial comparisons for intra-sector names within EM and work in concert with Portfolio Manager and the G-10 credit analysts to evaluate global sector relative value. Candidates should be comfortable in conducting calls and meetings with company management teams, street analysts, and independent advisors. Understanding of financial market dynamics, such as, the effect on securities pricing derived from news headlines, macroeconomic policies, interest rate moves, etc.


Principal accountabilities:
· Perform credit analysis and create detailed financial valuation models.
· Monitor real time news/developments affecting portfolio positions or related entities and convey actionable views.
· Work with Portfolio Manager to identify credit mispricings/anomalies.
· Conduct market research on wider trends impacting specific sectors.
· Attend broker conferences and meetings with companies.
· Monitor the positions in the book in the Portfolio Manager’s absence.
Required:
· Bachelor's degree.
· At least two years of work experience in either investment banking or as a sell side / buy-side analyst.
· Ability to synthesize and communicate complex qualitative and quantitative data.
· Strong financial evaluation skills; including credit and security analysis.
· Strong Excel skills for the purposes of financial modeling.
· Strong written and verbal skills. Able to communicate confidently with Senior Management of companies / Investor Relations.
· A thorough understanding of the key valuation drivers of emerging market corporates.
Preferred:
· Fluency in Spanish and/or Portuguese.
· An MBA or CFA qualification.
· Pro active in idea generation and surfacing of new ideas and trades for the Fund.
· Some previous trade/deal execution experience.
