Assistant in Regulatory & Tax Department, which manages everything relating to regulatory and tax issues and requires greater resources focused on regulation (we have a tax secondment programme in place).
The Assistant will almost certainly have a legal training and a professional services background. Working within a trade association is unique; it sits somewhere between a law firm and work on compliance within asset management. The growth of our specialist industry and the substantial increase in issues arising mean that the department’s role has become a crucial one. The position requires a self-starter. There is scope for the individual to grow and develop the role.
This position will require liaison with members acting locally in different jurisdictions, often working and communicating with very senior industry figures. The successful candidate will need to familiarise himself/herself with many different regulatory and fiscal regimes and track developments in a wide range of jurisdictions.
The Assistant will also be involved in a number of specialist committees and working groups, comprising projects, initiatives or products in the areas of sound practices, practical guidance for members and tax issues.
Qualities that are essential for this position include:
• the ability to absorb and organise substantial amounts of both general and detailed information and to disseminate and “distil” it in a manner readily accessible to AIMA members and in good English,
• an ability to communicate effectively with both regulatory representatives and members,
• a good knowledge of financial services law and regulation in the UK (at least),
• a willingness to work enthusiastically and happily within a small team in a small office and
• the ability to work under pressure and to represent AIMA professionally and positively, both internally and externally.
Requirements for this position:
• Excellent English, proven legal training and/or experience – gained at a law firm or within the asset management industry - or other appropriate experience in the hedge fund industry.
